Tony Nominee John McMartin Joins the Broadway Cast of All the Way, Starring Bryan Cranston

John McMartin will join the cast of the Broadway transfer of Robert Schenkkan's All the Way, starring Bryan Cranston as President Lyndon B. Johnson. The five-time Tony nominee will play Richard Russell, a Georgia Senator who was a leader of Southern opposition to the Civil Rights Movement. McMartin takes over the role from Dakin Matthews, who appeared in the drama's acclaimed run at A.R.T. Directed by Bill Rauch, All the Way will begin previews February 10, 2014 at the Neil Simon Theatre, with opening night set for March 6.

McMartin earned Tony nominations for his roles in Into the Woods, High Society, Show Boat, Sweet Charity and Don Juan. His other Broadway credits include Anything Goes, A Free Man of Color, Follies, Is He Dead?, Grey Gardens, The Visit and The Great God Brown. McMartin's film credits include The Dish, All the President’s Men, Legal Eagles, Sweet Charity, Pennies From Heaven, Native Son and Brubaker.

McMartin joins previously announced principal cast members Michael McKean as J. Edgar Hoover, Brandon J. Dirden as Dr. Martin Luther King and Rob Campbell as Governor George Wallace. Beginning with the Kennedy assassination, All the Way details the first year of Johnson’s presidency, focusing on his involvement with the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The play opens on Air Force One on November 23, 1963, as the plane transports the body of President Kennedy back to Washington D.C., and Johnson summons his courage to take on the role of commander in chief.

All the Way will feature set design by Christopher Acebo, costume design by Deborah M. Dryden, lighting design by Jane Cox, composition and sound design by Paul James Prendergast and video projections by Shawn Sagady.
